Who we are

The Methodological and Professional Centre (MPC) is a specialized department dealing with:

1) methodological guidance of teaching Czech for foreigners at ILPS CU
2) lifelong education of teachers teaching Czech for foreigners in the Czech Republic
3) education and methodological support of teaching Czech abroad
4) scientific activities in the field of linguistics and linguodidactics

Methodological guidance of teaching Czech for foreigners

We provide methodological guidance of Czech for foreigners as follows:

• close cooperation with individual ILPS CU centres
• coordination and guidance of Czech language methodologists
• methodological coordination in line with European trends in foreign language teaching
• creation of teaching and supplementary materials for teaching at ILPS CU centres
• verification of new teaching materials and their evaluation, giving demonstration lessons
• monitoring and evaluation of teaching
• education of ILPS CU staff involved in teaching Czech as a foreign language
• cooperation with methodologists of vocational subjects and Czech language in their lessons

Lifelong education of teachers in the Czech Republic

ILPS CU is the workplace of further education of teachers; MPC is engaged in the education of Czech language teachers:

• a two-semester course on teaching Czech as a foreign language
• professional seminars and workshops
• assistance to teachers of Czech as a foreign language
• methodological audits
• cooperation with other domestic institutions and organizations dealing with teaching of Czech as a foreign language and the issue of foreigners, migrants and children with a different mother tongue
• promotion of European language standards, presentation and use of reference levels in teaching of Czech as a foreign language

Methodological support and education abroad

MPC is a contact point and support centre for teachers from around the world, offering them:

• cooperation with MEYS, DZS and MFA in the care of teaching Czech abroad
• professional assistance to teachers at foreign lectorates
• cooperation with foreign workplaces (universities, schools, specialised courses)

LPS CU cooperates with Czech centres, Czech School without Borders, individual schools of Czech diaspora

• creating, piloting and evaluating materials for teaching abroad
• training of methodologists and teachers of Czech as a foreign language abroad
• training of teachers preparing for teaching abroad
• organization of specialised courses on an individual basis

• offer of electronic consultations in the field of Czech as a foreign language methodology according to regions

• representation of Charles University in the field of methodology of Czech as a foreign language abroad
